When you start the process of buying a home in The Netherlands, you'll find your friends, collaegues and neighbours chipping in with their so-called expertise and unfortuntealy will give you a lot of fake information. Some will say you need a makelaar, others will tell you it's a waste of money. Both are right. A good makelaar is worth thousands of euros to you, a bad one could cost you thousands of euros and not having one at all will only work for you if you're very, very lucky.
The Dutch word "makelaar" means estate agent, realtor, buying agent, property finder depending on which country you come from. For the ease of writing, "makelaar"will be used throughout.
Why Do You Need a Makelaar?
To understand why it is important to have someone represent you, you need to understand how the system works, especially in recent years when demand has outstripped supply many times over.
Apart from the invaluable advice a makelaar will give you, their main objective is to get your offer on a property accepted. It may surprise you but the price you are prepared to pay for an apartment or house is not necessarily the most important part of your offer.

I used to list all the services I offer but it became so long, the "Services" page on this website got a bit messy. The list is still there but it isn't exhaustive so the way I operate is: If you have a question, I will ALWAYS answer it. There are no exceptions to this. If you have employed me for my expertise then it makes no sense to not share it with you.
After 13 years in this business, there isn't much I don't know (excuse the arrogance). I will make sure you know all the important stuff and the meaningless drivel I have picked up over the years can remain in my head.
